Successful was the 26th International Sports Law Congress of IASL
Was successfully concluded in the appropriate atmosphere for the occasion, the Opening Ceremony of the 26th International Sports Law Congress took place on December 13 with the distinct cultural color of the cello with the hymn to Apollo and the Ode of Joy.
The event was honored with their presence by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, with the Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece.
From the Government, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Vasilis Economou, the member of the Board of Directors of the University of Athens, Professor Mrs. Athanassia Smyrnioti, the Member of Parliament for Niki, Mr. Nikos Papadopoulos, and many Conference participants from many countries. Greetings to the Conference participants were delivered by the Rector of the University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos SIASOS, the Vice-President of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Majed Garoub from Saudi Arabia, the President of the International Association of Sports Law, Professor of the National University of Athens, Dimitris Panagiotopoulos, the President of the Athens Bar Association, Mr. Dimitrios Vervesos, and on behalf of the participants in the Congress , Professor Mr. Bauoying GUAN from China, President of Shanghai University Political Science and Law.
The opening of the 26th IASL Conference was declared by the President of the Council of Europe, Professor Mr. Michalis Pikramenos.
They wished success in the work of the Congress, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of the Hellenic Prime Minister Mr. Costas Karamanlis whom the Chairman of the Organizing Committee warmly thanked.
At this event, the “APOLLON NOMIOS” Award was awarded to the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos CHRISTODOULIDES, the IASL High Honorary Title to High Personalities, by the President of the IASL Dimitris PANAGIOTOPOULOS, the Excellence in Science of Sports Law to Dr. Vasilios Oikonomou of the University of the Peloponnese by the Professor and Member of the Administration of the University of Peloponnese, Mrs. Athanasia SMYRNIOTI and the Award for Sports and Competitive Ethic to the World Champion George Charalambopoulos by the former Chairman of the Sports Spirit Committee Mr. George LENO. After the award ceremony, a cooperation agreement was signed between the IASL and the Arbitration Center, Saudi Arabia.
The opening speech was given by the Professor of Sports Law of the National University of Athens on the topic: “Sports Law Today, Personal and Economic Freedoms”, who, among other things, pointed out that it is very important to ensure the human rights of athletes, coaches and participants in sports events and to establish the Security of Law and Integrity in sports. These can only be ensured by the establishment of a strong and effective regulatory legislative framework, an International Constitutional Charter of Sports, as well as a Code of Sports Ethics, which will respond to the needs of the times.
In conclusion, he pointed out that above and above all else are ethics and sporting values that are tested in various ways, especially in the context of the Olympic Games, which constitute the crowning glory of global sporting events, and must promote the values and ideals of Olympia. For this reason, the re-establishment of the Olympic Truce through an internationally recognized public institution is of paramount importance. However, their consolidation and right them could only be achieved through an international center for the financial management and holding of the Olympic Games, with a corresponding financial contribution, democratic assignment – undertaking of the organization of the Olympic Games by each interested country.
Finally, he particularly emphasized that in the emerging multipolar world that is taking shape before us only in the perspective of an international amphictionia of the nations of this world, a global sport as well as the Olympic Games within it would make sense, but within the framework of new structures and rules, from this world and a law of the international amphictionia of free Nations, for a strong International Sports Law, a legitimizing basis for the Lex Sportiva and Lex Olympica rules that the international sports federations and the IOC set for international sport.
The work of the Conference continued with great success the next day at the Amphitheatre of the NKUA “Alkis Argyriadis”. The conclusions of the conference and papers selected for their quality will be published in the International Journal International Sports Law Review PANDEKTIS, a scientific instrument of the IASL registered in recognized large databases such as Sport Discus.

We would like to remind you that after the consent of the members of the IASL’s Board of Directors and the Organizing Committee of the 26th International IASL Congress, the Congress will be held on December 13-14, 2024, in Athens.
The deadline for the abstract of the paper is October 30, 2024.
Furthermore, for any information about the Congress, you can visit the IASL Websites www.iasl.org and www.sportslawacademy.com.
Those who have paid the registration fee for the Congress are considered to be registered for it and should send their consent to the Organizing Committee. They should also send again their abstracts.

We would like to inform you that after the consent of the members of the IASL’s Board of Directors, the Organizing Committee of the 26th International IASL Congress decided to postpone and transfer the Organization of this Congress on December 13-14, 2024, in Athens, due to the situation in the Middle East but also the situation that is taking shape in the world at this time and after complaints of registered participants that they cannot travel at this time in Greece.
Furthermore, any information about the Congress will be posted on the IASL Websites www iasl.org and www.sportslawacademy.com until December 2024.
